At Renders, we proudly offer smoked prime rib as a special every Thursday from 5 pm until close. And if you’re lucky, you might even catch our open-face prime rib sandwich for lunch—buttered toast with taters, prime rib, and gravy. It’s mouthwatering.
But what exactly is prime rib, and why is it so special?
What is Prime Rib?
Prime rib is a cut of beef taken from the cow’s rib section. It’s a well-marbled cut, meaning it has a lot of intramuscular fat, which gives it a rich flavor and tender texture. Prime rib is typically roasted or smoked and can be served with various sides, such as mashed potatoes, collard greens, and mac-n-cheese – all of which we serve at Renders!
Why is Prime Rib So Special?
Prime rib is a unique cut of beef because it’s so flavorful and tender. The intramuscular fat melts during cooking, basting the meat and giving it a juicy, succulent texture. Prime rib is also a very versatile cut of beef. It can be cooked to different degrees of doneness, from rare to well-done, and served with various sauces and sides.
Prime rib can be cooked in various ways, but smoking is one of the best methods. Smoking gives the prime rib a delicious smoky flavor that complements the beef’s natural flavor. And you know what we say here at Renders—everything is better smoked!
We season our prime rib with garlic, horseradish, thyme, rosemary, salt, pepper, and olive oil! If you’re in a pinch at home, you can use our Renders brisket rub, a unique in-house blend of our favorite herbs and spices. (Don’t forget: We sell this fantastic rub, which can be purchased at our restaurant or online store.)
